Get to Know Foster Care to Success’ Students
Foster Care to Success supports thousands of students annually, in colleges and vocational/technical training programs across the nation. Among them are poets, advocates, entrepreneurs, artists, writers, musicians, parents, travelers, and many more unique and wonderful individuals. Here are some of their stories, in words and pictures.
Here’s a poem from Anais P., a junior at SUNY Stony Brook:
Everyday is full of wonders!!!
Every day is full of wonders…
if it’s not then why to live???
You wake up every day anticipating what is going to happen.
Hopefully classes are cancelled or the teacher doesn’t assign homework.
At work your boss is delightfully pleased with what you have offered.
Maybe you catch a free ride on the bus because you lost your metrocard.
You walk into the hot girl or boy you have been crushing for months, maybe years.
Every day is full of wonders..
So make the most of it.
Live life happy and freely because every day is uncertain..
And the bad impression you gave one day will probably forfeit all your desires the next.
And remember, every day is full of wonders…
3 L’s—-Live, Laugh, Love…..
Live for the moment,
Laugh for a lifetime,
Love everyone around you and learn to appreciate them.
And here is a painting by Greta A., a graduating senior at The University of Wisconsin, Stout. Her commentary follows.
My senior show AKA debut in the art world is at the end of this month, so I’m pretty much living in my studio (I seriously have a coffee pot and a microwave in there) but it’s amazing. I’m doing my paintings about foster care but using birds as symbolism, which made me think about how fitting it is that the FCS Scholarship Team calls us their chickadees. It’s been a really great thing to create this body of work; it just feels right.
Baby birds are these really vulnerable, awkward things when they start out, but when you think about it if and when they make it through the baby bird phase, they’re so well equipped to succeed. I mean, they can literally fly, and they’re able to adapt in crazy ways. It fits perfectly for where I feel I’m at in my journey- still half fledgling, but getting more and more ready to launch all the time.
We are so proud of Anais and Greta – and all of our budding poets, artists, writers, accountants, entrepreneurs, medical technicians, teachers, actors……………………… We are so proud of all our students.
